Medical test rules out omega-3 advantage for Alzheimer’s

Hopes that fish oil could possibly be a weapon in the battle against Alzheimer's disease were dashed Tues. The study, which sought to demonstrate how omega-3 fatty acids could slow the progress of dementia, could not. Omega-3 fish-oil has been touted as a treatment for Alzheimer’s because individuals with a diet rich in fish demonstrate a lesser tendency to suffer from dementia.

Study shows that having heart risks are prone to woman with stressful job

CHICAGO – Working women are equal to men in a way they'll wish they weren't. Female workers with stressful jobs were more likely than women with less job strain to suffer a heart attack or a stroke or to have clogged arteries, a big federally funded study found. Worrying about losing a job can raise heart risks, too, researchers found. The results seem sure to resonate in a weak economy with plenty of stress about jobs — or lack of them.

Prolonging schools is President Obama's plan

There wasn't really much wisdom put into the idea of tossing money advances at American schools. This is not what they need to make for a better educational experience. An education reform is the answer according to Obama who spoke on "Today's" "Education Nation" to Matt Lauer. The audience that Obama was hoping to get to was the stay-at-home moms and dads. He said that instructors need to be more responsible for the schooling of students which means extending the schools year.

I don't want to be the governor who fights for marriage equality. I want to be the governor who signs the law that makes equality a reality in the state of New York," said the Democratic nominee.

For White house Shakedown, Tony Hayward get’s GOP apology

Tony Hayward opened his testimony in Congress Thursday by apologizing on behalf of BP for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010. But he was upstaged by an additional apology from a Republican for the White House "shakedown" of BP for a $20 billion dollar fund to cover damages from the oil spill. Lawmakers gave some wrath on the beleaguered oil company executive at the House Energy and Commerce listening to investigating the oil spill. The shakedown apology to Hayward from Texas Republican Joe Barton was also fairly predictable considering the representative's record.

Cuba announces mass layoffs in bid to spur private sector

(Reuters) - Cuba will lay off more than 500,000 state employees by March and expand private employment to give them work in the biggest shift to the private sector since the 1960s, the Cuban Workers Federation said on Monday. Eventually more than a million jobs would be cut and, due to efforts to increase efficiency in the state sector, there would be few new state sector openings, the federation said in a statement. More than 85 percent of the Cuban labor force, or over 5 million people, works for the Soviet-styled one-party state, many of them in unproductive work.

The computer networks of public and private entities will now be monitored by "Perfect Citizen" a federal program headed by the National Security Agency (NSA). Perfect Citizen is being developed to protect power grids, water supplies and other resources vital to national security from cyber attacks. Public Citizen is reassuring internet security to some, and a disconcerting intrusion to others, who see its massive automated NSA surveillance of American companies and citizens as Big Brother.
